Are Winter Winds Wrecking Your ‘Do?

Here’s 5 easy ways Mother Nature can help.

Between harsh winter weather and dry indoor heat, let’s face it: Your hair has probably seen better days. But you don’t want to spend a fortune on fancy beauty parlor products that promise to add life to your tresses—and who can blame you? Instead, head to your favorite grocery store, and pick up a few all-natural fixin’s for DIY hair care.

  1. Puree three raw carrots in a blender, and apply the mush to your scalp for 15 minutes to absorb oil without over-drying.
  2. Skin and mash a ripe avocado, apply it to your hair, and leave it on for 15 minutes to add moisture.
  3. Peel and puree two cucumbers in a blender, massage the mix into your hair, and leave it on for 15 minutes to soothe your scalp and add shine to your hair.
  4. Mix ½ cup of olive oil into ½ cup of boiling water, let it cool to warm, and apply the mixture to your hair. Cover your head with a shower cap, and leave it on for 30 minutes so the treatment can deep-condition your hair.
  5. Brew a cup of chamomile tea, let it cool, then use it as a rinse after you shampoo to add natural highlights to any color of hair.
